The maintenance team is the problem-solving force that keeps the hospital moving. Before a small fault becomes a major disruption, they are there inspecting, repairing and finding solutions that allow patient care to continue without interruption.
Their work requires technical skills, patience and a deep understanding that behind every repair is a patient who needs care.

Abdallah's journey into technology began long before he ever held a tool in a hospital. As a child, he was fascinated by electronics — the way machines worked, how problems could be solved and how something broken could be brought back to life. It was a curiosity that stayed with him, quietly growing over the years.
Yet, like many journeys, his path was not a straight one.
To fulfill his family's hopes, Abdallah pursued nursing and midwifery training. He earned his certificate and entered a profession built around caring for others. He became a nurse, serving patients and gaining a deep understanding of healthcare from the bedside. But even as he cared for patients, the passion for electronics that had been with him since childhood never faded.
After completing his studies, Abdallah made a journey from the southern part of Tanzania to the north, carrying with him both his nursing skills and an unfulfilled dream. The road was not without challenges, but he continued moving forward, working as a nurse while searching for an opportunity to reconnect with his childhood dream.
That opportunity came when he joined FAME.
At FAME, Abdallah found himself in an environment where his two worlds could finally meet. Surrounded by medical equipment that played a critical role in patient care, he saw a chance to turn his lifelong curiosity into a skill that could serve others in a new way.
With support from FAME, Abdallah pursued further training in Electrical and Biomedical Science, combining his experience in healthcare with technical expertise. After completing his biomedical studies, FAME began a partnership with DAK International Network, which supported a certified biomedical engineer to come to FAME and work alongside Abdallah and the maintenance team.
Together, they began building the systems, skills and knowledge needed to manage FAME's biomedical equipment locally. What began as an opportunity for Abdallah to pursue a childhood passion has grown into something much larger: a developing biomedical program within FAME hospital.
Today, Abdallah plays a central role in that work. He helps maintain and manage essential equipment throughout FAME, from operating theater beds and patient monitors to anesthesia machines, sterilizers and other critical medical equipment. He also works alongside the maintenance team to strengthen their technical capacity and build systems that can support the hospital as it grows.
Abdallah's journey is one example of how investment in people can create lasting change. The skills he developed are not only helping him fulfill a childhood dream — they are helping FAME build the technical expertise it needs to maintain its own equipment and keep patient care moving forward.
In healthcare, some of the most important work happens before a patient ever sees it. It happens in the checks completed, the problems solved and the systems restored.
Because when everything is working, it allows everyone else to focus on one thing: caring for patients.
