FAME Campus Evolution

It all began in 2002, when founders Frank Artress and Susan Gustafson had their own medical crisis while traveling in Tanzania. Starting with a mobile medical service to remote locations in Tanzania, FAME now operates a 22-acre, full-service medical campus in Karatu, Tanzania.

The founders' decision to build FAME in Karatu, Tanzania was due in large part to the tremendous lack of healthcare in one of Tanzania’s most vulnerable and under-resourced rural communities.
